2010/06/24,28 - repository work

The last couple days at the library involved work on a couple repository collections. I spent most of Thursday installing DSpace on our "minnows" server. Today Claudine brought a USB-drive to my desk full of the scans of her ACES collection. I began copying the data onto my workstation, and dug up the information on how to batch-import the pdf's and metadata into our repository.

2010/06/21-23 - time for fish

Over the last few days I finished up the AuCataloging port to the new bootstrap code, split clickTracker, catRequest, and refStats code each out to its own build project, and released a new vufind tool that includes "id-file" support. I'm having fun working on the AuCataloging code, but I'll have to pull myself away tomorrow to install d-space on the minnows-project test server running in a VM on Clint's machine.

2010/06/14-16 - back to zero

I've spent most of my time the last few days porting the AuCataloging code base up to the new littleware 2.1 module system. I've finally finished all the individual tools for ETD and VuFind, but I still need to update the AuCataloging webapp. Hopefully that won't be too painful.

Once I get everything back to zero, then I'll go back and add the "read bib-ids from a file" functionality to the Vufind import tool, and also take a look at extending the data-model to save form values to persistent files, so an application starts up with configuration values saved during its last execution.

2010/06/07-09 - Humpty Dumpty

Jack has been out this week. He fell over the weekend, and it sounds like he banged himself up pretty good. Hopefully he'll feel good enough to come in tomorrow.

I've spent most of the last few days coding and testing littleware's new bootstrap-module system. I'm very happy with how the code has come together, but it will be at least another week before I finish porting the existing AuCataloging codebase.

Clint finished a full Voyager import into VuFind only to realize at the end that some metadata was not handled correctly. When we looked into it we realized that we had not erased the old solrmarc properties files, so the importer ran with those files rather than the new configuration we had tested. Clint is going to just redo the import. It sucks to have to babysit the import for another week, but we'll know better next time. I'm going to extend the import tool to accept a file full of bib-ids to import, so it will be easy in the future for us to import subsets of our Voyager catalog.

2010/06/01-02 - short week at the library

It was a short week for me at the library as we had Monday off for Memorial Day and I tool Thursday off to spend time with visiting relatives. I spent most of my time writing code and fixing bugs, but the big event of the week was an afternoon meeting with Professor Jon Armbruster who just won an NSF grant to establish an online database of minnow morphology. The library will develop and administer the database as a digital collection. We'll see how it goes.
